Parent/Guardian Frequently Asked Questions
What is NWOSSSA?
NWOSSSA stands for the Northwestern Ontario Secondary School Students’ Association. We are a student-run organization that was established in 1975. We hold monthly meetings to plan various conferences and discuss matters that affect secondary school students. Our organization volunteers extensively within the community, holds fundraising and charity events, and we promote leadership and cooperation while encouraging personal growth and fulfillment of our organization’s members.
What exactly do delegate fees pay for? Who do I make cheques out to? Can I get a receipt?
Delegate fees cover the costs of your child’s accommodations over the course of the four day conference. This includes but is not limited to their meals, snacks, beverages, living arrangements, and conference materials (conference t-shirt, delegate packages). Please make cheques payable to “NWOSSSA”. Receipts are available upon request.
What type of supervision will be at the college for the duration of the conference?
In addition to our own internal security team, we also hire an additional third-party security team in order to ensure the safety of your children. Our first-aid team will also be on site at all times in the case of an emergency.
What should my child bring with them to conference?
We recommend packing light and leaving any important, sentimental, or valuable items at home to avoid them being lost. Your child should pack the following items:

Closed toed shoes (absolutely no open toed shoes such as sandals or flip-flops, crocks with backs are
Pillow and sleeping bag
Any desired extra personal food or snacks to be kept in their room
Any desired props for our talent show

Pens and paper
Costume for semiformal themed dinner and dance
Reusable water bottle
$20.00 room key deposit
Can my child leave for a duration of the conference for a prior commitment?
We do not recommend that your child leave during the conference, as it is very action-packed and busy. If your child must leave for a portion of the conference, please contact the regional president, Aleksi Luoma, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
What if my child has dietary restrictions or food allergies?
We take both dietary restrictions and food allergies very seriously. Please clearly indicate on the conference form in the space provided what their dietary restrictions are to allow us to accommodate them.
